Xeikon and Kurz collaboration enhances label security and consumer engagement

Unique Bird Symbols: A closer look at the intricate details protecting brands

Xeikon and Kurz’s collaboration with SCRIBOS introduces innovative technology for digital label printers, offering enhanced brand protection, track & trace features, and consumer engagement. This partnership leverages Xeikon’s TITON dry toner printing, Kurz’s DIGITAL METAL® embellishment, and SCRIBOS’ product security expertise to create a single-pass label application that safeguards brand value, combats counterfeiting, and enhances consumer loyalty.

Jeroen Van Bauwel, Xeikon Director of Solution Design, highlights the significance of this collaboration: “Adding unique metallic elements to the printed label helps mitigate the consequences of counterfeiting, offering a revolutionary level of protection and full-service solution.”

Powered by Xeikon’s X-800 DFE, the application integrates SCRIBOS ValiGate® technology and SCRIBOS 360 Cloud Platform to provide high-level security and visibility for brand owners. Serialized, protected QR codes and metallic variable elements, along with advanced copy protection features, ensure authenticity.

Dr. Steffen Scheibenstock, Head of Digital Business Development at SCRIBOS, explains the technology’s complexity: “The secondary level of copy protection embedded in these QR codes relies on very intricate details, which can only be achieved with toner digital printing.”

The application also enhances consumer engagement through a secure 2-factor authentication process. After scanning the QR code with a smartphone, consumers compare symbols on the product with those on the screen, ensuring authenticity without requiring an app.

Interactive Security: Consumers verify authenticity by matching symbols on labels.

The SCRIBOS 360 authentication platform supports the QR codes, providing data for statistics and analysis. Additionally, customers can select from various consumer engagement modules, such as cross-selling options or bonus programs, tailored to their branding.

Van Bauwel emphasizes the technology’s versatility: “This doubly encrypted technology offers an ideal way for brand owners to boost consumer engagement securely, providing endless possibilities for interaction that can increase brand loyalty.”

At drupa 2024, visitors can witness this application printed live on Xeikon’s TITON press, showcasing its capabilities in a paper-based wine label. This innovative solution highlights the potential of digital printing in the competitive label market.
