Veolia, through its RECAPP service, and TotalEnergies Marketing Middle East (TEMME) have joined hands for a groundbreaking recycling initiative in Dubai, marking a significant move to enhance the country’s recycling capabilities.
The partnership aims to introduce an innovative recycling solution across TotalEnergies service centers in the UAE. Through the RECAPP service, Veolia will assist TotalEnergies in optimizing its end-of-life product recovery and recycling process, contributing positively to environmental sustainability.
“This partnership marks an important step towards promoting sustainable practices and addressing environmental challenges in the UAE,” stated Jérôme Viricel, General Manager of RECAPP at Veolia Near & Middle East. “By leveraging RECAPP’s expertise, we aim to divert empty plastic lubricant containers from landfills and repurpose them through recycling, aligning with broader recycling initiatives in the country.”
Thomas Vigneron, Managing Director at TotalEnergies Marketing Middle East, emphasized TotalEnergies’ commitment to responsible waste management. “TotalEnergies aims to promote a circular economy for plastics and optimize waste management in the region,” Vigneron remarked, highlighting the initiative’s alignment with UAE Circular Economy Policy 2021 – 2031.
The initiative, a pilot project, plans to extend its scope to more service centers in the future, contributing to global efforts towards circularity and addressing plastic pollution. It is particularly significant in light of UAE’s recent launch of an integrated program to monitor plastic waste in marine and coastal environments, coupled with the impending nationwide ban on single-use plastic bags starting January 2024.
