UPM Raflatac has introduced new swatchbooks for wine, spirits, beverage, and premium labeling in the EMEIA market. The swatchbooks, available in compact and large-scale formats, offer printers, brands, and designers the ability to evaluate label materials based on texture, color, and aesthetics.
“Swatchbooks are essential tools for printers and designers, providing both a visual and tactile feel of label materials. Our goal was to present our solutions in a way that is both user-friendly and uniquely inspirational for the target market,” said Stefano Pistoni, Senior Manager, Business Growth, Wine and Spirits Label Solutions at UPM Raflatac.
The swatchbooks feature UPM Raflatac’s SmartChoice™ paper and filmic solutions, designed to support sustainability efforts through the use of recycled content and renewable or resource-optimized raw materials. Product details are accessible via QR codes included in the swatchbooks. Among the highlighted SmartChoice solutions are:
- Carbon Action PP UCO – an ISCC PLUS certified bio-circular face film containing 30% renewable content, designed for carbon footprint reduction.
- Forest Film – the first ISCC-certified wood-based plastic label material.
- Ocean Action – a certified label material aimed at addressing ocean-bound plastic pollution.
- Drops WSA PCR-FSC – a textured paper made entirely from recycled fibers.
The swatchbooks were developed in collaboration with design agency Maba and printer Grafical, incorporating insights from industry professionals to enhance usability.
“The design of the new swatchbooks is inspired by UPM’s Finnish heritage and Nordic nature. This, combined with innovation and design traditions, is showcased throughout the swatchbooks, featuring shapes that resemble Finnish lakes and a nature-inspired aesthetic,” said Carles Anadon, Senior Manager, Business Growth, Consumer Label Solutions at UPM Raflatac.
The swatchbooks was officially presented at Packaging Première, part of Paris Packaging Week 2025, at stand B22 on 28–29 January.
