Tata Elxsi launches sustainable packaging for Vatika Haircare range

Innovative packaging design by Tata Elxsi for Vatika Haircare showcases sustainability and style.

Tata Elxsi, a prominent player in product engineering and design services, has unveiled an innovative packaging design for Vatika Shampoo range in the UAE market. This initiative follows a recent brand refresh for Vatika, a leading natural hair care brand. Tata Elxsi contributed significantly to crafting a fresh design language system, emphasizing Vatika’s commitment to sustainability and its identity as a natural hair care brand.

The new packaging design not only prioritizes environmental sustainability but also integrates engineering and simulation techniques to maintain functionality and structural integrity while reducing plastic usage. Noteworthy achievements include a 25% cost savings, a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, a 17% improvement in truck loadability, and an annual decrease of 128 metric tons in plastic use. Moreover, the design incorporates 60% post-consumer recycled plastic via multilayer molding.

Compared to the previous design, the new packaging achieves a 15% reduction in plastic usage per 400ml pack, showcasing a dedicated commitment to sustainability and innovation. The design process involved meticulous engineering to uphold functionality and purpose.

Virtual engineering techniques were utilized to optimize the design, tailored to appeal to Vatika’s predominantly female customer base. The resulting product boasts a refined silhouette that balances aesthetic appeal with practical utility.

Shyam Sunder B K, Chief Designer at Tata Elxsi, commented, “Our design reflects Vatika Naturals’ commitment to sustainability and natural ingredients, creating a fresh brand identity through natural motifs in shampoo and conditioner packaging.”

Nishant Sukumaran, Marketing Head at Dabur International, Dubai, remarked, “With this change, Vatika’s design quotient has elevated to multiple levels above industry benchmarks. Just another step into offering consumers visually appealing, user-friendly, and sustainable packaging.”
