STI Group is presenting its smart packaging solutions at Drupa 2024, focusing on integrating digital product information such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and the Digital Product Passport (DPP). These innovations are featured as part of the ‘Touchpoint Packaging’ initiative in Hall 3 | B 31.
The Touchpoint Packaging stand, coordinated by the European Brand & Packaging Association (epda), brings together experts from across the value chain, including designers and brand manufacturers. The joint stand highlights forward-looking solutions in connected packaging, the circular economy, and compliance with new legislation.
A key feature is the Digital Product Passport, which will become mandatory for certain product categories starting from 2030 as part of the European Green Deal. Initially, this will affect electrical appliances, followed by textiles, toys, and cosmetics. The DPP aims to promote the circular economy by providing environmental data. Consumers can scan a code on the packaging to access information such as manufacturer details, product ingredients, materials, recyclability, and environmental impact.
Dynamic codes enhance this system by allowing the underlying data to be easily updated and customized based on the user’s location, language, and other relevant parameters. These codes can also combine DPP with GS1 Digital Link, making logistics data accessible to the retail supply chain.
With dynamic multipurpose codes from info.link, almost any information currently printed on packaging can be stored and personalized. Consumers can scan the link without needing a special app, and the digital information accessed can be continually updated. This eliminates the need to redesign and reprint packaging whenever products or legislation change, reducing waste from outdated packaging stock.
STI Group’s presentations at drupa, running from 28 May to 7 June 2024, will focus on developing sustainable packaging in line with evolving legislation and digital concepts. The folding box specialists will share best-practice solutions and deliver presentations on the Touchpoint Packaging stage.
“We are excited to showcase our smart packaging solutions and discuss how they align with future legislation and sustainability goals,” said an STI Group spokesperson.
