smartwater by the Coca-Cola Company has launched a new line of 12-ounce aluminum cans in the United States, offering both its original and alkaline variants. This marks the first time vapor-distilled water has been available in this format. The cans are designed with a sleek, modern aesthetic, aiming to provide a functional and convenient hydration experience.
“We’ve been dedicated to anticipating consumer needs and trends in hydration since launching in 1996,” said Tiphanie Maronta, Sr. Director of Brand Marketing. “We are always looking for smarter hydration solutions.” The new cans, available in single units and 8-packs, complement the brand’s existing bottled offerings.
The move reflects the growing trend in the water category for recyclable, on-the-go packaging. As consumers continue to seek convenience, aluminum cans have gained popularity for their portability and sustainability. “As the leading premium water brand, we have a responsibility to constantly iterate and meet consumers where they are,” said Sadie Ellison, Senior Brand Manager of smartwater.
The design features a minimalist approach, with the original smartwater can displaying a silver drop on a royal blue background, while the alkaline variant features a similar design with a black base. “Our team worked tirelessly to ensure the cans would stand out on shelves while fitting seamlessly into our iconic visual identity,” Ellison explained.
The cans’ launch follows the introduction of smartwater alkaline with antioxidant in March 2023, a product designed to support active, high-performance lifestyles with a 9.5 pH level and added selenium. This new offering was promoted through the “Elevate How You Hydrate” campaign, featuring several notable public figures.
