Silbo, a leading packaging company, has partnered with Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper, to transform its pallet wrapping process. Silbo is replacing plastic stretch film with Mondi’s kraft paper Advantage StretchWrap, utilizing a state-of-the-art fully automated wrapping machine.
The transition to 100% paper pallet wrap marks a significant advancement in sustainable packaging. Mondi’s Advantage StretchWrap, made from responsibly sourced fibers, is fully recyclable within existing paper waste streams, supporting the shift toward a circular economy. An independent Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) commissioned by Mondi confirms that Advantage StretchWrap outperforms standard plastic stretch film in key environmental impact categories.
In addition to its eco-friendly nature, Advantage StretchWrap offers exceptional puncture resistance and high stretch properties, ensuring reliable protection for a wide range of goods during transportation.
The successful integration of paper-based wrapping was made possible through the close collaboration between Mondi, Silbo, and EW Technology. With the Advantage StretchWrap reel specifically designed for the automated machine, there is no need for rewinding. This means that a single reel can cover up to 400-600 pallets, significantly reducing the frequency of replacements compared to plastic wrapping, leading to cost and time savings.
