SIG delivers 3 Billionth Aluminum-Free carton pack to European dairy industry

SIG aims to further reduce the carbon footprint of its aseptic cartons and enhance recyclability.

SIG, a leader in packaging solutions, has achieved a significant milestone by delivering its 3 billionth aseptic carton pack without an aluminum layer to the European dairy industry. This accomplishment marks a key advancement in the company’s journey towards more sustainable packaging.

Since 2010, SIG has been at the forefront of developing aseptic carton packaging materials without aluminum layers, aligning with its commitment to creating environmentally friendly packaging solutions. By expanding its aluminum-free offerings, SIG aims to further reduce the carbon footprint of its aseptic cartons and enhance their recyclability.

The 3 billion aluminum-free carton packs supplied to the dairy industry utilize SIG Terra Alu-free and SIG Terra Alu-free + Forest-based polymers packaging materials. These materials are recognized for their sustainability benefits and represent a significant step forward for the dairy sector.

Robert Kummer, Sales Director Aseptic Cartons Europe at SIG, emphasized the importance of this milestone, stating, “Having now delivered our 3 billionth carton pack without an aluminum layer to the dairy industry, this is a first and important milestone on our journey to end the use of aluminum in our packs.”

SIG’s commitment to sustainability is further underscored by the environmental advantages of its packaging solutions. SIG carton packs, with a high share of forest-based renewable materials, a lightweight design, and full recyclability, offer the lowest carbon footprint compared to alternative packaging options.

Looking ahead, SIG remains focused on enhancing its aluminum-free options. José Matthijsse, President & General Manager Europe at SIG, outlined the company’s ambitious plans to develop a full-barrier aluminum-free aseptic packaging structure with at least 90% paper content by 2030.

SIG’s packaging materials without aluminum layers can be seamlessly integrated into its existing filling lines, allowing customers to adapt quickly to changing market demands without significant capital expenditure.

SIG’s achievement of delivering 3 billion aluminum-free carton packs highlights its ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation in packaging solutions.
