Renie and Tetra Pak team up to drive carton recycling in MENA

Marcelo Piva and Sonya Kayani celebrate Tetra Pak’s “Sustainable Company of the Decade” award at Gulfood Manufacturing 2024.

Renie has partnered with Tetra Pak to enhance carton recycling rates across the MENA region, with the aim of contributing to a more sustainable future. This collaboration, unveiled at Gulfood Manufacturing 2024, introduces Renie Bins that now accept Tetra Pak cartons, expanding the range of recyclable materials.

The partnership aligns with the UAE’s broader environmental goals, including its target to achieve zero landfill waste by 2030 in Dubai. By increasing access to recycling, Renie and Tetra Pak are promoting circularity—turning waste materials into reusable resources.

“This partnership represents a crucial step in advancing recycling efforts in the UAE,” said Marcelo Piva, Sustainability Director for Tetra Pak in the Middle East and Africa. “Working together across sectors is essential to make a meaningful impact. We’re excited to bring carton recycling closer to people throughout the UAE, and we look forward to seeing the Smart Bin solution widely adopted.”

A closer look at the Renie bin.

Since expanding its offerings earlier this year, Renie Bins now accept a variety of materials, including plastic, aluminum, glass, paper, vapes, e-waste, and Tetra Pak cartons. The goal is to empower users and businesses to increase their recycling efforts by diverting more types of waste from landfills.

The new Tetra Pak-shaped Renie Bin, showcased at the event, is part of the effort to make recycling more accessible and impactful across the region. This initiative marks a significant move towards supporting the UAE’s sustainability targets and encouraging a circular economy.
