Ranpak launches GrasiKraft™ paper made from sustainably sourced grass fibers

GrasiKraft™: Sustainable packaging made from grass fibers, blending performance and eco-friendliness.

Ranpak Holdings Corp. has introduced its new GrasiKraft™ paper, a sustainable void fill material made from a blend of grass fibers and recycled paper. This marks the first time Ranpak has added grass-based paper to its product portfolio, offering an eco-friendly alternative for packaging in e-commerce and industrial supply chains.

GrasiKraft™ paper combines the performance of traditional kraft paper with the environmental benefits of grass fibers. Compared to other void fill materials, it requires less water in its manufacturing process and diversifies renewable fiber sources, contributing to the circularity of secondary packaging materials.

“We are thrilled to add GrasiKraft™ paper to our product offering. This milestone is an important step as Ranpak continues to evaluate the most sustainable materials possible,” said Omar Asali, Chairman and CEO of Ranpak. “We believe that single-use packaging should be recyclable and come from renewable resources to protect our world for future generations.”

The development of GrasiKraft™ is the result of a partnership with Creapaper, aimed at exploring the use of grass as a sustainable fiber source. The paper material, which remains compatible with Ranpak’s existing packaging converters, is made from fibers sourced from agricultural margin areas and rewetted moorlands in Central Europe, helping preserve valuable ecosystems.

Stéphane Doerane, Logistics Services Manager at Belgian pharmaceutical distributor Multipharma, shared his experience with GrasiKraft™: “We’ve been using GrasiKraft in our packaging for a few months, and it not only meets our performance standards but has a softer feel, which has led to positive customer feedback.”

GrasiKraft™ paper is fully curbside recyclable and biodegradable, supporting Ranpak’s commitment to sustainable packaging solutions.
