Platinum Packaging, a Kenyan flexible packaging specialist, has implemented two BOBST MASTER M6 inline flexo presses with oneECG technology to optimize its production floor. This strategic investment aims to enhance operational efficiency and address key pain points such as long setup times and high levels of waste.
Nairobi-based Platinum Packaging Ltd, established in 2019, provides tailored flexible packaging and labeling solutions for various industries, including FMCG, agrochemical, pharmaceutical, automotive, and construction. The company produces 580 tons annually and continuously adapts to meet evolving packaging demands.
After a fire in 2022 damaged its facility, CEO Hasit Patel and his team saw an opportunity to reassess their operations and extend their partnership with BOBST. “The fire gave us an opportunity to rethink our approach and introduce more BOBST technology to address some of our major pain points, mainly long setup times due to color matching, high levels of setup waste, and slow speed to market,” stated Patel.
The integration of the MASTER M6 presses has significantly enhanced Platinum Packaging’s production capabilities. The oneECG (Extended Color Gamut) technology has been critical in improving efficiency, flexibility, and print quality. “Thanks to oneECG, we’ve achieved great improvements in productivity, reductions in downtime, and significant savings on waste of materials and time,” Patel explained. He noted that digital color matching has expedited processes, reducing substrate waste to less than 30 meters and enabling rapid job changes.
BOBST’s support has been instrumental during this transition. Daragh Whelan, BOBST’s Application Technical Director, played a key role in helping Platinum Packaging establish a new prepress department and fully digitalize the color matching process. Patel praised the technical support, stating, “Throughout this endeavor, Daragh has given us invaluable support, allowing us to achieve the best possible outcomes from oneECG.”
