Plastic Bank, one of the world’s leading for-profit social enterprises that builds recycling ecosystems in under-developed communities in an effort to fight plastic pollution in seas and rivers, announced the appointment of Eng. Ahmed Abd ElAleem as the new Regional Head of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa at Plastic Bank.
Armed with over 15 years of experience in supply chain and sourcing activities, Ahmed has built capacities and developed different types of alternative fuels and logistics for various national and international organisations. His post-grad qualification in supply chain management (SCMG) and Mechatronics Engineering degree as well as his Production Mechanical Engineering degree, have also well-equipped him with the knowledge and skills to excel in his field.
In his role, Abd ElAleem will continue building a circular economy that is beneficial for people and the planet while supporting the overall corporate strategy of Plastic Bank. Through shared values with Plastic Bank, Abd ElAleem aims to empower communities and enable them to exchange waste for money, goods, or services.
Prior to Plastic Bank, Ahmed worked as an Alternative Fuel Sourcing Manager with GeoCycle Egypt, a subsidiary of Lafarge Holcim, one of the world’s leading cement companies. During his six years tenure, he has led multiple initiatives that provided new sources of energy for cement production.
One of his most notable projects was the rice straw project, which incinerated rice straw in cement kilns instead of burning it in open fields. This project saved over 100,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year and improved air quality for millions of people.
