This year’s exhibition attracted over 12,000 visitors from around the globe, highlighting the region’s significance as a hub for the paper and packaging industries. A major focus was on the integration of sustainable practices within the packaging supply chain. This is crucial as the MEA region is projected to see substantial growth in market revenues, with the paper products market expected to hit USD 16.4 billion by 2030, driven by demand in sectors such as office supplies and education.
Sustainability Takes Center Stage
Sustainability was a key theme throughout the event, with companies showcasing eco-friendly packaging solutions. Innovations in recycled materials and energy-efficient production processes were highlighted, especially in the paper and stationery sectors. “The region is demanding greener solutions, and sustainability is now a driving force behind product development,” said Abdullah Al Khateeb, Managing Director of Ittihad Paper Mill, the largest paper production facility in the MENA region.
The Hub Forum, a key feature of Paperworld Middle East, hosted discussions on sustainability in logistics packaging, including AI’s role in optimizing production and reducing environmental impacts. Industry leaders underscored the importance of eco-conscious practices, such as using recycled PET bottles in product manufacturing, aligning with the region’s growing focus on reducing single-use plastics.
Packaging Innovations and Regional Expansion
The event also delved into the packaging sector’s evolution, with many exhibitors showcasing new packaging solutions that align with consumer demand for sustainable and customizable products. Parvesh Kapoor, Director at Alia Mohd Trading Co. LLC, noted that “Brand positioning and quality, along with local partnerships, are essential for success in the diverse Middle Eastern and African markets.”
