Oman Air has taken a significant step in its sustainability journey by redesigning the packaging for its Economy Class earphones. In collaboration with Linstol, a global provider of eco-friendly in-flight products, the airline has replaced single-use plastic PET foil with recyclable Kraft paper envelopes. This change is expected to eliminate 6.48 tonnes of non-recyclable waste annually, equivalent to saving an estimated 110 trees or conserving 207,360 liters of water.
“We are delighted to introduce this latest initiative, which represents our ongoing commitment to our planet by reducing the environmental impact of air travel, while ensuring our guests enjoy a comfortable and convenient experience that aligns with their values,” said Con Korfiatis, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Air. “We believe that small changes make a big impact and we continue to look for innovative solutions in all corners of our operations, while promoting and advocating for initiatives that support both the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Oman’s national objectives.”
This initiative is part of Oman Air’s broader efforts to enhance sustainability. Last year, the airline saved approximately 21.6 tonnes of plastic by replacing the wrapping for blankets and mattresses in its premium cabins with an eco-friendly paper-based alternative. The airline has also reduced the use of plastic water bottles and cups and has implemented more efficient management of potable water consumption.
Additionally, Oman Air is actively pursuing various emissions reduction initiatives and is involved in the development of Sustainable Aviation Fuels. These efforts align with Oman’s strategy to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2050.
Oman Air’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in its continuous efforts to integrate eco-friendly materials and cut waste, thereby supporting the circular economy. The airline’s initiatives are designed to not only enhance the onboard experience but also contribute to global environmental goals.
