Metsä Board enhances recycling with QR code labels on packaging materials

Metsä Board’s QR code labels: Simplifying recycling for a sustainable future.

Metsä Board, a European producer of premium fresh fibre paperboards, has introduced QR codes on pallet and reel labels for all product deliveries. The initiative aims to simplify recycling by providing customers with clear, accessible information on the packaging materials accompanying their paperboard deliveries.

The QR codes link to an app detailing the various materials used in the logistics chain and their proper recycling methods. This innovation is designed to help customers reduce landfill waste and integrate materials into local circular economy systems.

“The implementation of recycling QR codes stems from a strong commitment to sustainability and customer convenience,” said Isto Hongisto, Product Safety Specialist at Metsä Board. “Recycling can be complex, and our goal is to make it seamless and straightforward. This initiative not only saves time but also ensures optimal recycling of delivery materials.”

This development reflects Metsä Board’s broader sustainability strategy, which emphasizes reducing environmental impact through innovative solutions. The company encourages customers to utilize this feature to enhance recycling efficiency within the packaging industry.

The QR codes have been included on all Metsä Board deliveries since November 2024.
