Metsä Board, a part of Metsä Group, has announced the achievement of home compostability certification for all its white kraftliners and folding boxboards, excluding PE-coated grades. The certification, issued by DIN CERTCO, is based on compliance with standard NF T 51-800.
Helena Moring-Vepsäläinen, Product Safety Manager at Metsä Board, highlighted the significance of this certification: “All our paperboards can be recycled, which is the preferable option when the packaging or food service container has served its purpose. But sometimes the packaging material can be stained by food, and then composting with biowaste is a good choice. Our paperboards have had industrial compostability certification for several years now, and home compostability is one step further which is certainly welcomed by consumers.”
The paperboards produced by Metsä Board are made of fresh wood fibers and are deemed safe for use in sensitive end-use applications. They are lightweight and manufactured using mainly fossil-free energy sources, contributing to a lower carbon footprint throughout the packaging value chain.
This certification aligns with Metsä Board’s commitment to sustainability and provides consumers with more environmentally friendly packaging options.
