McCafé introduces compostable espresso coffee capsules for Nespresso machines

The new Espresso Coffee Capsules are commercially compostable, developed in partnership with TerraCycle®†.

McCafé has launched a new range of compostable espresso coffee capsules compatible with Nespresso® Original coffee machines. The capsules, made from a blend of Rainforest Alliance Certified Arabica beans, are designed to offer a variety of flavors while addressing environmental concerns.

The new product line includes three roasts: a light roast with sweet caramel notes, a medium roast featuring chocolate and hazelnut flavors, and a dark roast that blends silky dark chocolate with roasted almond. “With the launch of the new commercially compostable Espresso Coffee Capsules, McCafé continues to raise the bar in the Canadian coffee market,” said Jeff Kroll, Chief Strategy Officer and Senior Vice President at McDonald’s Canada.

The capsules are commercially compostable through a partnership with TerraCycle®, a waste management company. Consumers can participate in the McCafé Free Composting & Recycling Program by signing up on the TerraCycle website to receive a free shipping label for returning used capsules. In addition to the compostable capsules, the packaging bags are also recyclable through the same program.

This initiative marks McCafé’s latest step in expanding its reach within the Canadian coffee market while focusing on sustainability. The new McCafé Espresso Coffee Capsules are now available at participating retailers nationwide.
