Mauser Packaging Solutions, a leading global industrial packaging producer, has expanded its presence in South Africa with the acquisition of a plastic drum manufacturing business in Pinetown, Kwa-Zulu Natal. Previously owned by Nampak Products Ltd and later by Eliptotime PTY Ltd, the business was officially transferred to Mauser on August 1, 2024.
This acquisition strengthens Mauser’s production capacities and extends its footprint in South Africa, now operating five manufacturing and reconditioning facilities across the region. The expanded operations will allow Mauser to enhance its product offering and better meet the growing demand for industrial packaging solutions.
“This investment underscores our commitment to growing our presence in the region and supporting our customers with sustainable packaging solutions,” said Michael Steubing, President of Mauser’s International Packaging Business Unit.
Peter Lucht, Mauser’s General Manager in South Africa, emphasized the significance of the acquisition, stating, “We are proud to expand our plastic capacity and portfolio. This move enhances our ability to provide reliable supply and a broader range of products to our customers.”
The newly acquired facility produces UN-certified tight-head and open-head plastic drums, serving industries such as petrochemicals, lubricants, chemicals, coatings, mining, and food. The site is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified, highlighting its commitment to quality management and environmentally responsible practices.
Mauser Packaging Solutions also manufactures intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) and offers reconditioning services for both plastic drums and IBCs. The company holds a level 4 Contributor B-BBEE status and was the first reconditioner in South Africa to achieve ISO 45001 compliance, reflecting its dedication to occupational health and safety standards.
