Koenig & Bauer enhances energy management in metal decoration

Samuel Teufel, Product Manager at Koenig & Bauer MetalPrint, with VisuEnergy X sensor technology: “Its modularity and system independence fit perfectly into metal decoration production environments.”

Koenig & Bauer MetalPrint is introducing new energy management features aimed at boosting sustainability in the metal packaging sector. Starting with all new printing systems at its Stuttgart facility, the company will include hardware for recording energy data and the VisuEnergy X energy management system, designed specifically for print and packaging production.

The new standard sensor technology simplifies the initial setup for energy management, while VisuEnergy X enables comprehensive data monitoring and reporting. This system is unique to the industry, optimized for tracking energy usage and sustainability metrics.

Samuel Teufel, product manager at Koenig & Bauer MetalPrint, highlighted the importance of energy management in metal decoration, noting, “Energy management has a key significance because the production processes are so energy-intensive.” Michael Billa, VisuEnergy X product owner, added, “Digital technologies like VisuEnergy X allow data about factors like power consumption and CO₂ emissions to be recorded and visualized, providing a basis for identifying potential savings.”

VisuEnergy X provides industry-specific key performance indicators (KPIs), such as energy consumption relative to production output. This tailored approach benefits Koenig & Bauer’s customers by offering insights that are directly applicable to their operations. For existing machines without standard sensor technology, options for retrofitting are available.

Teufel further emphasized the collaborative effort with Koenig & Bauer’s Digital Unit to meet customer demands for sustainability and cost efficiency. “The modularity and system independence of VisuEnergy X fit perfectly into the metal decoration industry’s production environments,” he said. Billa noted that the system’s open concept allows for integration with existing equipment, regardless of manufacturer.

Koenig & Bauer’s integration of sensor technology into its product portfolio underscores the company’s commitment to advancing energy management standards in the industry. “With VisuEnergy X, we’re setting a new industry standard for efficient energy management,” Billa concluded.
