Klöckner Pentaplast launches sustainable packaging film for medical devices

The new kpNext® MDR1 film offers sustainable, high-performance packaging solutions for the medical device industry.

Klöckner Pentaplast (kp), a leader in sustainable packaging, has launched the kpNext® MDR1, a new medical device packaging film designed to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly packaging solutions in healthcare.

The kpNext® MDR1 film offers performance comparable to traditional medical device packaging, including clarity, device protection, and ease of processing. What sets it apart is its recyclability, further supporting kp’s commitment to sustainability. The film is fully recyclable in the RIC 1 stream and is compatible with existing packaging lines, meaning no costly retooling is required.

Cameron Smith, Global Product Line Manager for Medical Device Films at kp, highlighted the importance of the launch: “The introduction of kpNext® MDR1 marks a significant milestone for kp as we expand our kpNext® family into the medical device market. This new film allows healthcare providers to prioritise sustainability, without compromising on the quality or performance of their packaging materials.”

The launch follows kp’s introduction of SecondLife® MD, a medical device film made with 50% certified recycled content. Together, these products offer a range of sustainable packaging options for healthcare providers, addressing needs such as recyclability and the use of recycled materials.

Kirstin Hedin, Vice President of Product Line Management & Marketing at kp, noted, “kpNext® MDR1 is a testament to kp’s leadership in sustainable innovation. We’re excited to provide the medical device industry with a film that not only delivers superior performance but also aligns with global sustainability goals.”

This expansion reflects kp’s ongoing effort to innovate and meet the evolving sustainability needs of the healthcare industry.
