Packaging manufacturer Jokey is introducing a new line of PET packaging produced using the Injection Stretch Blow Molding (ISBM) process, incorporating a significant proportion of recycled rPET plastic sourced from post-consumer waste. This move aligns with the company’s commitment to sustainability and circular economy principles.
The new product line, based at Jokey’s Kędzierzyn-Koźle facility in Upper Silesia, will initially focus on Blow Jars (JBJs) with matching closures, available in sizes ranging from 150 to 300 milliliters. These transparent containers, commonly used for products like ketchup, soap dispensers, and pill boxes, cater primarily to the food and pharmaceutical industries. According to Mateusz Buliński, Business Development Manager at Jokey Poland, “The ISBM process and the use of rPET meet our requirements for efficiency and sustainability and are consistent with our goal of a circular economy for plastic packaging.”
The ISBM process allows for customized shapes and designs while reducing material usage by up to 15 percent compared to traditional PET injection molding. This contributes to more efficient use of resources.
The global market for PET packaging is growing, with 5 million tons of PET used for packaging in Europe in 2022, according to the European PET Association Petcore. Of this, 60 percent was collected for recycling. Jokey’s use of rPET-based packaging aims to meet the increasing demand for sustainable packaging solutions while opening up new sales opportunities. Christof Kölschbach, CSO of Jokey Group, added, “With rPET-based PET packaging, we can meet the demand of existing customers and also open up new sales markets.”
