Innovia Films introduces new low-density film for ice cream packaging

New VL40 white cavitated film from Innovia Films, designed for ice cream flow wrap packaging, offers high puncture resistance and superior printability.

Innovia Films has launched a new white cavitated ultra-low-density film, VL40, designed specifically for ice cream flow wrap packaging. This film is produced at Innovia’s facility in Płock, Poland.

The VL40 film is engineered to perform well on high-speed flow wrap machines, which are commonly used by ice cream manufacturers across Europe. It features a low sealing threshold, making it suitable for maintaining the quality of ice cream products during packaging. “Our new VL40 white cavitated film is an excellent fit for ice cream flow wrap applications,” said Alasdair McEwen, Head of the European Packaging Division at Innovia Films. “It preserves the quality of the product until consumption.”

Developed and trialed at the Płock site, the film boasts a high-gloss finish and a broad heat seal range. Piotr Piasny, General Manager at Innovia Films in Płock, noted, “We made significant modifications to our extrusion lines to deliver this film, which is ideal for ice cream sandwiches and popsicles. The film’s high puncture resistance is crucial for reducing food waste, and its printability enhances graphic appeal.”

The film is designed to withstand varying climatic conditions but should be stored at temperatures below 104°F (40°C). Under proper storage conditions, it remains stable for up to six months. The VL40 film is currently available from Innovia Films for testing purposes.
