Huhtamaki, a global leader in sustainable food packaging, has introduced ProDairy, a recyclable single-coated paper cup designed specifically for yogurt and dairy products. This innovative packaging solution addresses the growing demand for environmentally friendly packaging while maintaining the high-performance standards required for dairy products.
ProDairy cups contain less than 10% plastic, making them fully recyclable in Europe. The product meets the stringent food safety requirements for dairy packaging and is designed to provide strong sealing and barrier properties. “Dairy products are an important part of our daily life, and creating recyclable packaging for something as essential as yogurt has been a challenge, especially while maintaining high-performance standards,” said Fredrik Davidsson, President of Fiber Foodservice Europe-Asia-Oceania at Huhtamaki. “I am proud of our team and excited that we can now offer this solution to our customers at scale.”

A significant challenge in reducing polymer content is ensuring a perfect seal and lid fit. Huhtamaki has overcome this by developing a unique rim design and forming process for optimal top rim sealing. The company has also introduced a proprietary sealing varnish to replace the outer polyethylene layer, maintaining a paper-like feel while providing a moisture barrier for chilled products.
“Our unique product delivers the functional performance of traditional paper cups with a lower plastic content, while still being fully recyclable,” Davidsson added.
