Ben Daniel, Chief Editor of Packaging MEA, sat down with Zeid Al-Jehni, CEO of Heidelberg Middle East, FZCO, at drupa 2024 to discuss the company’s achievements and industry insights.

Heidelberg Middle East, a leading player in the printing and packaging sector, marked its return to drupa after an eight-year hiatus with a strong presence. Al-Jehni expressed his pleasure at being part of drupa 2024, highlighting its significance for the industry. He noted that the event had attracted visitors from across the region, including key customers from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, UAE, and Iran.

One of the highlights of Heidelberg’s participation was the signing of more than 40 printing units of XL106, indicating a strong demand for sophisticated and high-productivity machinery in the region. Al-Jehni also mentioned the visit of His Excellency Bandar Alkhorayef, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, as a significant endorsement of their efforts in the region.

Heidelberg’s focus on automation was evident, with Al-Jehni noting a growing awareness among customers of its benefits in enhancing productivity and reducing labor costs. Heidelberg’s commitment to sustainability was also highlighted, with efforts to reduce harmful chemicals, introduce CO2-neutral machines, and enhance recyclability.

“In terms of partnerships, our collaboration with MK for folding carton finishing has seen significant growth in the market. MK’s role in delivering efficient and high-quality finishing solutions for folded carton boxes has been instrumental,” Al-Jehni added.

Looking ahead, Al-Jehni advised industry players to follow the leaders, citing Heidelberg’s position as a leading manufacturer worldwide. He emphasized the company’s commitment to providing the highest level of support, advice, and consultancy to its customers, as well as its strong local support team in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region.

Heidelberg plans to announce the customer for their latest installation, a large machine in Saudi Arabia, next month in a special inauguration event.
