OpenColor 2.0.6 offers separation and preview profiles plus function to calculate separations
Germany GMG has released a new version of OpenColor, its award-winning multichannel profiling software.
GMG OpenColor 2.0.6’s highlight is the ability to dynamically create and deliver best-quality separation and preview profiles to Adobe Photoshop and PACKZ from HYBRID Software, said GMG.
OpenColor’s latest version also offers a new function to calculate separations in a very flexible and convenient way via rules that can be applied to whole spot colour libraries, according to GMG.
The profiling system can characterise offset, flexo, and gravure printing processes with 10+ colours of overprinting inks.
The product applies mathematical models that predict the ink interplay for specific processes and substrates without extensive fingerprint data. Based on maths alone, OpenColor has can predict process-specific ink overprints, said GMG.
“With GMG OpenColor we are now able to create GMG DotProof profiles with spot colours for special substrates like foil or metal fast, achieving reliable colour matching results,” said Michael Guggemos, head of colour management at MCM Nägele Digital Repro KG.
With OpenColor 2.0.6, GMG claims to be broadening possibilities for third-party applications, including Adobe Photoshop. With a direct connection to the GMG ColorPlugin integrated in Photoshop, OpenColor 2.0.6 offers a new predictive, on-thefly profiling for layers and/or selections, from CMYK to any combination of process colours and spot colours.
The new OpenColor Preview function in Photoshop provides a colour- accurate preview with OpenColor prediction technology, so all changes are immediately visualised. Profiling any channel change with a mouse click, GMG OpenColor can simplify difficult colour separation and re-separation tasks.
OpenColor can also connect to bring dynamically created GMG profiles to PACKZ, a PDF-based pre-press tool suite for package and label production. With OpenColor profiles, PACKZ can easily re-separate jobs to reduce or optimise number of plates on press (replacing magenta with a spot colour or separate spot colours and overprints to a sevencolour extended color gamut printing process).
