drupa 2028 set for May: Nine-day event announced

Attendees at drupa 2024 engage in discussions about the future of printing technology and sustainability.

The next edition of drupa, the leading global trade fair for printing technology, is scheduled for 9 to 17 May 2028 in Düsseldorf. In line with its four-year cycle, drupa 2028 will be held over nine days, reflecting the evolving needs of the printing and packaging industry.

The 2024 edition of drupa highlighted the industry’s shift towards sustainability and innovation, with automation, artificial intelligence, and strategic partnerships taking center stage. “drupa 2024 was more international than ever, and the positive atmosphere throughout the halls reflected our industry’s determination to drive profound change,” said Wolfram N. Diener, Chairman and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf. Diener also noted that shorter stays at the fair are becoming more common among decision-makers, prompting the decision to reduce the event’s length. At the 2024 edition, 76% of visitors were from top and middle management.

Dr. Andreas Pleßke, Chairman of the drupa committee and CEO of Koenig & Bauer AG, supports the new format, stating that the shorter duration meets changing industry requirements while maintaining drupa’s international scope. “No other format generates such a high level of interest from the industry,” Pleßke said.

Sabine Geldermann, Director of drupa, emphasized that the decision to shorten the event was based on extensive feedback from exhibitors, visitors, and partners. “This is a direct response to the industry’s desire for a more focused, efficient event that continues to provide international participants with a unique opportunity to discover groundbreaking innovations,” Geldermann explained.

The full concept for drupa 2028, including its new visual identity, will be unveiled in 2025. Meanwhile, other important drupa-affiliated events include Pack Print Plas Philippines in October 2024, Printpack Alger in February 2025, and the PRINT & DIGITAL CONVENTION in Düsseldorf in May 2025.
