Cairo-based Elsewedy aims to unfold its potential in the packaging sector

Medhat Elsewedy Print House, a Cairo-based company with 30 years’ experience serving some major international brands, is expanding its operations and placing a greater emphasis on the packaging sector of print. Accordingly, the company has invested in a raft of new technology to help it achieve its goals and to offer its customers greater value and versatility.

Packaging MEA Editor Ben Daniel spoke with commercial manager Mohammed Elsewedy, who launched the business in 1990, to find out more about this company’s new direction.

“In the past, Elsewedy focused on other businesses such as commercial print, book printing and digital print on demand,” says Mohammed, “but lately we found our manpower, machinery and design capability well suited the folding carton sector, and decided this would be our future target market.

“We now focus on this, primarily using offset print process. Our client base is comprised of 70% local brand owners, 20% print buyers and 10% export.”

And there are some serious names amid this client base, as Mohammed illustrates: “Elsewedy has some strategic customers like Samsung, Toshiba,  El Sewedy Electric, and so on.

“Besides these, we cater to a whole lot of other brand owners and buyers across food and non-food segments such as pharma and cosmetics. However, the food sector is our main
focus.”

That would make folding cartons a perfect fit, then, and as Medhat Elsewedy Print House moves in this direction, it has implemented a major spend in new technology.

Mohammed explains: “We have invested in a state-of-the-art B1 format 5 Plus Coater Heidelberg CD 105 Offset Press to enhance our print production.

“We have also invested in a Kama ProCut 76 Foil, converting equipment. With 10 different functions available, the die-cutting, embossing and finishing machine ProCut 76 Foil adds flexibility
to our converting and finishing operations.

While Elsewedy Print is already well established, it is taking on a competitive existing field in its aim to corner the packaging market, with other major printers also extending their capabilities and production capacity across cartons, flexibles and labels and labelling. How does Elsewedy aim to succeed?

“We have the capability to understand all our customers’ requests and tailor the product to the customer’s requirements with the most appropriate and worthy solutions,” says Mohammed.

Despite being a relative newcomer to packaging, and operating in a competitive field, Elsewedy has already made an impact, winning a second runner-up award at the PRIME Awards 2019.
