Husky’s packaging innovation for the regional dairy industry

Multi-Layer Barrier technology: “20% core layer blocks 99.99% of light”

UAE: Leading industrial injection molding systems technology provider Husky presented its multilayer barrier technology that combines its HyPET HPP5 technology with an advanced melt delivery system and thus enhances the controls to provide increased capability to accurately distribute barrier material— offering the ideal combination of high barrier protection and shelf impact to beverages across CSD, juice, dairy, tea, food and personal care.

Speaking at the Dairy Innovation Congress here at Dubai earlier last month, Arnaud Pellet, multi-layer market manager, Husky Injection Molding Systems, said that the company had installed over 40 MultiLayer systems in 13 countries since 2015 and over >200 systems since 1990 across eight application families.

Explaining the structure of the multi-layer barrier technology, Pellet said, “The technology has been developed and built on Husky’s leading HyPET HPP5 solution.” Multi-layer barrier technology combines the benefits of a robust, high performing and easy–to– maintain the system with the capability to precisely dose the barrier layer. Offered as a module for HPP5, multi-layer barrier technology has no requirements for special tooling or equipment. Packages can be blown and filled on existing lines, making this a drop-in solution that still benefits from all future advancements to HPP technology.

Husky commands dominance in producing most of the PET preforms for liquid dairy products. Brands who adopt PET build a track record of boosting sales in both volumes and retail prices said Pellet.

Another leading feature is its light barrier property with its MultiLayer Barrier where the multi-layer bottle with 20% core layer has the ability to block 99.99% of light.

“In addition, recent launches have success- fully demonstrated that consumers pay a premium for PET packages as against other alternatives with PET having significant advantages when compared to existing packages for UHT Milk. The industry is getting organised to establish dedicated streams for opaque PET”, concluded Pellet.

Abdallah El Kharboutly, General Manager-Middle East, Husky Injection Molding Systems said, “The Dairy Innovation Congress in Dubai was a great platform to meet with local and international dairy stakeholders and learn about new industry trends. MENA is an important growth market for Husky and the event gave us a good opportunity to network with key dairy producers, allowing us to align on the importance of product protection and sustain- ability, which are a key focus of Husky’s multi- layer technology.”
