Omet eyes iran and the Middle East

Italian manufacturer also demonstrates hybrid Varyfl ex V4 Offset

tehran  Italian press manufacturer Omet is aiming to establish a strong presence in Iran, where it claims to have met an encouraging response in the International Iran Print-Pack 2016 expo in Tehran on 25–28 December 2016.

Omet was represented at the trade show by its agent Naem, which reported “huge interest”, setting the ground for installations in 2017 and strengthening Omet’s collaboration with local institutions for courses on business topics.

With a population of 70 million and an economy that could develop fast with the lifting of international sanctions, Iran is viewed as a promising market for print and packaging. Omet claims to be among the first Italian companies to enter market.

“In the next five years this will be one of the most promising markets for Omet,” said NaimYavuz, Omet’s agent for Iran and Turkey.

“We want to give our contribution to the growth and the spread of global standards in this area, by helping the local institutions with the promotion of technical and educational training concerning label printing technologies and processes.”

Omet’s training sessions in Iran will initially cover anilox technology and die-cutting, with a focus on the “problem solving”, said the company.

In Iran Omet also sponsors four scholarships for students on the country’s first academic course on label printing, organised by Iran Print Industry Exporters Union (IPIEU) in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, and the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology’s Colour Research and Development Centre.

Training topics will include technologies used in labelling, resins, digital printing, colour management, and environmental sustainability. Students will tour companies operating in this sector and attend seminars on international business trends, organized by Iranian Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Tarsus Group, the co-ordinator of Labelexpo.

The company has meanwhile its new Varyflex V4 Offse as “the only solution in the entire mid-web market with fully automatic offset technology by sleeve”, offering “extreme flexibility” and “user-friendly operations”.

Omet invited leading packaging firms to the unveiling of the press at an ‘open house’ event atits headquarters at Lecco in Italy on 20–21 March.

Omet claims the Varyflex V4 Offset meets rising demand for hybrid technologies in flexible packaging that can deliver high printing quality and cover high-density colour applications.

The ‘Your Passport to Packaging’ event included a live demonstration of the 33”4/8-wide press, which has a maximum mechanical speed of 400 m/min. The offset groups’ sleeve technology allows a complete repeat changeover in few minutes, thanks to the Easy Sleeve Format Change and the automatic pressure adjustment system, said Omet. The Varyflex V4 Offset has been designed to print either with a wet-on-dry configuration, mounting UV lamps in-between the printing stations, or wet-on-wet with UV drying or electron beam curing at the end of the line.

“We chose to show the electron beam curing system because we believe it can provide extreme drying efficacy in packaging printing production especially with complex jobs and food packaging,” said Marco Calcagni, Omet commercial director.

“The Varyflex V4 Offset is highly competitive in this ever-changing market where job runs are shorter and shorter and the alternative printing solutions, like rotogravure and CI flexo machines, add higher production costs to low flexibility and limited configurations.”

Omet has also announced development in Matrix stripping with the evolution of its Rock’n’Roll stripping system and the introduction of an Easy-Strip unit. The company claims these two technical solutions enable higher production speed and keep perfect die-cutting shapes, avoiding any issues from special substrates or complex label shapes.
