Coca-Cola Al Ahlia partners with Emerge for solar energy at Al Ain facility

His Excellency Osama Amir Fadhel, Banu Karakullukcu, and Michel Ali Saab celebrate the inauguration of Coca-Cola Al Ahlia’s solar power plant in Al Ain.

Coca-Cola Al Ahlia Beverages Company, in partnership with Emerge—a joint venture between Masdar and EDF Group—has inaugurated a 1.8 MW solar power plant at its production facility in Al Ain. The project, unveiled during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, underscores the company’s commitment to renewable energy and aligns with the UAE’s Green Agenda 2030.

The solar plant, equipped with bifacial panels, advanced inverters, and smart monitoring systems, will supply clean energy to the facility, reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 1,566 metric tons annually—the equivalent of powering over 300 homes for a year. The initiative is also expected to reduce oil consumption by 3,600 barrels annually.

“This installation marks a significant step in our journey towards sustainability,” said Banu Karakullukcu, CEO of Coca-Cola Al Ahlia Beverages Company. “Partnering with Emerge allows us to bring renewable energy solutions to our operations, supporting the UAE’s Green Agenda. We aim to replicate this success across other facilities in the region.”

Powering sustainability: Coca-Cola Al Ahlia’s Al Ain facility now harnesses solar energy.

The project’s first phase meets 18% of the facility’s energy needs, with phase two expected to increase solar contributions to 23% by the end of the year. Emerge will oversee the plant’s operation and maintenance for 25 years.

Michel Ali Saab, General Manager of Emerge, highlighted the broader significance: “This solar plant demonstrates how innovative energy solutions can advance sustainability goals while reducing costs, contributing to the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategy.”

His Excellency Osama Amir Fadhel, Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, praised the initiative as part of the “Make it in the Emirates” strategy, which promotes sustainable manufacturing practices and decarbonization in line with the UAE’s climate goals.

The collaboration reflects the UAE’s commitment to integrating renewable energy into industrial operations, encouraging sustainable practices, and supporting its path to climate neutrality.
