Çevikbaş boosts output with dual BOBST RS 6003 gravure presses

Çevikbaş employees operate the advanced BOBST RS 6003 gravure press at the company’s state-of-the-art facility in Konya, Turkey.

Turkish flexible packaging manufacturer Çevikbaş Packaging has significantly enhanced its production capabilities following the installation of two BOBST RS 6003 gravure presses in 2021. The investment has increased the company’s annual production capacity by 40%, reaching 18,000 tons, while supporting its sustainability goals and international growth strategy.

Founded in 1988, Çevikbaş specializes in gravure printing, lamination, and converting for applications such as Doy packs, Quadro bags, flow packs, and recyclable packaging. Operating from a 32,000 sqm facility in Konya, the company employs 150 staff across two production shifts. Approximately 40% of its output is exported to markets in Africa, Central Asia, and Europe.

The BOBST RS 6003 gravure presses, each with eight-color capabilities, run at a maximum speed of 500 m/min and can handle a wide range of substrates, including film, laminates, and paper. “BOBST’s gravure technology really impressed us, particularly the high speed and format flexibility,” said CEO Mehmet Çevikbaş. “Our customers demand high quality and faster turnaround times, and these presses help us meet those expectations.”

Sustainability remains a core focus for Çevikbaş. The company has implemented mono-material packaging solutions designed for recycling and commissioned a solvent recovery system in 2022 to capture and reuse emissions. A solar energy system now powers its operations, while the BOBST presses contribute to reducing waste through their short web path and efficient drying technology.

The twin press strategy has also delivered operational advantages. Using identical machines simplifies production planning, ensures job repeatability, and allows shared use of components such as printing cylinders and ink trolleys, reducing costs. Operators benefit from the intuitive SPHERE Human Machine Interface, which speeds up setup and maintenance.

The collaboration with BOBST has been backed by robust after-sales support. “The 24/7 service connection ensures any issues are resolved quickly, keeping our machines running and customers satisfied,” Çevikbaş added.

BOBST expressed pride in the partnership. “Çevikbaş’s growth following this investment highlights the value of our gravure technology. We look forward to continuing this collaboration,” said Angelo Cavallo, Technology Sales Manager, Gravure & Laminating.
