Castrol introduces HDPE bottles with 50% recycled plastic content

Castrol India enhances sustainability with HDPE bottles now made from 50% recycled plastic, aiming for 2,600 metric tonnes of annual recycled content by 2024.

Castrol India Limited has increased the recycled content in its high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic bottles to 50%, marking another step in its sustainability journey. The company aims to use 2,600 metric tonnes of recycled plastic annually in its packaging portfolio by 2024.

This development builds on Castrol’s previous efforts to enhance the sustainability of its packaging. In 2022, the company introduced 100% recycled bottles for its POWER1 range and incorporated 30% recycled content across all bottle packaging in 2023.

The initiative aligns with Castrol’s global PATH360 strategy, which seeks to reduce the company’s plastic footprint by 50% by 2030.

“We are proud to announce this milestone in our journey towards more sustainable packaging,” said Sandeep Sangwan, Managing Director of Castrol India. “This achievement reflects our team’s dedication to developing packaging solutions that meet our high standards for quality and aesthetics.”

Beyond packaging, Castrol India continues to focus on sustainable manufacturing practices, employing energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy to lower greenhouse gas emissions at its production facilities.
