Canon unveils varioPRESS iV7 B2 sheetfed inkjet press at drupa

The heavy-duty B2 sheetfed press, varioPRESS iV7 (expected in late 2025), expands Canon’s sheetfed offerings.

Canon announced the varioPRESS iV7, a new B2 sheetfed inkjet press, at drupa 2024. This marks Canon’s entry into the B2 sheetfed inkjet market.

High Productivity and Diverse Applications

The varioPRESS iV7 boasts a production speed of 8,700 B2 4/0 sheets per hour and aims to set a new standard in the B2 segment. It caters to commercial printers, online and publishing printers, and book producers by offering exceptional print quality, high productivity, and support for various media.

Expanding Inkjet Portfolio

The varioPRESS iV7 joins the varioPRINT iX1700 and varioPRINT iX3200/2100 to create a wider Canon inkjet press portfolio. This expanded range caters to a broader range of printing businesses with monthly print volumes ranging from 300,000 A4 images to 4.5 million B2 images.

Key Features of the varioPRESS iV7

  • Unparalleled Productivity: Delivers continuous industrial productivity at 8,700 B2 4/0 sheets per hour with minimal operator intervention. Automated printhead and image quality control and the ability to refill ink without stopping printing ensure efficient production.
  • Versatile Media Support: Handles a sheet size of up to 750 x 614 mm, enabling production of magazines, catalogs, books, marketing materials, direct mail, postcards, and business cards. The air-supported paper path and two-step fixation process allow for printing on a wide range of coated and uncoated media up to 450gsm, including selected paper boards.
  • Eye-catching Quality: Features 1200 dpi printheads, water-based polymer pigment inks, and Canon’s ColorGrip conditioning liquid to deliver vibrant colors, fine text, and precise line details. Multilevel drop size modulation allows for high print quality and excellent ink efficiency.

“The varioPRESS iV7 is ideal for short-run, just-in-time production,” said Jennifer Kolloczek, Senior Director, Marketing & Innovation, Production Printing, Canon EMEA. “It allows PSPs to support their customers in reducing overproduction and print inventory, while also enabling them to migrate short-run offset jobs to a highly productive digital press.”

Canon highlights its 15-year experience in production inkjet and its vast expertise in supporting commercial printers transitioning to digital printing. The varioPRESS iV7 is positioned as a solution for printers seeking to offload short-run offset jobs to a productive inkjet press without media or bindery setup changes due to the B2 format compatibility.
