Kamal Sharma
APPLICATION MARKETING MANAGER, BOROUGE
Borouge pasrtnered with Corys Packag ing in developing and accomplishing this MDO-PE pouch. Having made its new fully sustainable flexible MDO-PE structure a reality and closing the loop along with its partners, Borouge, Corys Packaging presented a fully recyclable PE laminate, formulated with Borouge performance Anteo and Borstar enhanced PE – groundbreaking solution for brands using mono-material/all-PE structure/ laminate in the MEA region.
The mono-material solution features excellent mechanical properties with outstanding sealing performance, optimised by the latest machine-direction orientation (MDO) technology. This innovative, circular solution will help customers address the challenges of switching to monomaterial laminate with enhanced packaging line performance.
Sharma said the main challenge we all have in producing MDOPE is the film’s stiffness and clarity. Therefore, Borouge worked with the value chain to offer solutions where the film is very stiff and clear.
“Today, MDO film is produced with 100% of Borouge material, produced in the UAE, so we can say, whatever initiatives come here, we can always support it,” he said. Reinforcing its commitment to pursue excellence and innovation in packaging structures, and to support the growing demand for a circular economy, Borouge has launched its new full PE laminate with MDO film. With a sustainable full PE flexible structure, Bourouge’s new offering is enabled by Borstar Bimodal PE technology, an MDO-PE + Blown PE, launched in collaboration with Corys Packaging of Dubai.
“Regional initiatives have been taken to develop more solutions, and a mono-material, which was basically a dream for everybody,” Sharma continued. “Imagine all the solutions, like right here, made of polyethylene solutions.
Based on that, we can see clearly this is recyclable and can avoid so much complexity for the collectors. So, here we are, offering a groundbreaking solution to brands to use our mono material/ all-PE structure/laminate. “We can proudly say that what you see right here is 100% Borouge material. As a raw material only, we cannot have a solution like this. We need fantastic machine suppliers and packaging converters.”
Pramthesh Panday
DIRECTOR OFOPERATIONS & PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT, CORYS PACKAGING
Panday said: “We have been able to demonstrate the capability of the film line and the materials together. When we work on this kind of approach, which is 100% recyclable and made in UAE, the role of the partners comes into play.
“This pouch has been printed using CI flexo technology. As for the structure, we can also see a very high level of transparency. It’s basically a replacement for polyester. When we look at a replacement for polyester, it is really important to develop the properties needed, because it’s a pouch with a zip. The film must have desired properties to make sure there is no shrinkage.
“Brands have made unprecedented pledges to sustainability. So, we are joining hands with all such brands to ensure their commitments are delivered. “As far as the material properties are concerned, we have undertaken many studies, which definitely ensure it is not only food-safe but that it can protect food equivalent to the existing structures which are not sustainable.
More importantly, these films have been run on commercial lines, which involves printing at speeds of 400 meters per minute on rotogravure as well as CI flexo lines. So, it has been proven. “In addition, this structure will be viable from the manufacturing perspective, which involves waste and the ability to give high levels of efficiency. I think the next step is that brand owners would have to work together to unleash its full potential.”
