Borealis, Henkel, and Korozo collaborate on circular laundry detergent packaging

Henkel’s new laundry detergent packaging features 30% post-consumer recycled plastic, advancing circularity.

Borealis, Henkel, and Korozo Group have collaborated to develop flexible packaging for laundry powder detergent containing 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic. This initiative, now available in Central Eastern Europe, aims to drive circularity in packaging through innovation and cooperation across the supply chain.

The packaging, used for Henkel’s laundry brands such as Persil, Purex, all, and Dixan, integrates high-quality LDPE recyclates supplied by Ecoplast, part of the Borealis group. Ecoplast’s materials are ISCC PLUS and EuCertPlast-certified, ensuring traceability throughout the value chain.

“We’re dedicated to shaping a viable future for the next generations,” said Isabella Bodin Carloni, Henkel Global R&D Packaging Engineer. “Our goal is to reduce fossil-based plastics by 2025, and this collaboration with Borealis and Korozo Group has been invaluable in achieving progress.”

Borealis’ Borcycle M technology played a central role in developing the packaging. Peter Voortmans, Borealis Global Commercial Director Consumer Products Flexibles, emphasized the importance of partnership: “Circular progress demands collaboration across the value chain. Together with Henkel and Korozo, we’ve demonstrated what can be achieved in the spirit of EverMinds.”

Korozo Group contributed its expertise in flexible packaging. “This innovation represents a milestone in the shift away from fossil resources and towards a circular economy,” said Fatih Imre, Korozo Group Technical Account Manager.

The new packaging underscores the growing industry effort to reduce virgin plastic use while maintaining product quality and advancing sustainability goals.
