In the packaging industry, accurate color reproduction is crucial for both converters and brand owners. Consistent color across various packaging types signals product quality and brand integrity, with iconic hues such as Coke red and Cadbury purple being integral to brand identity.
To meet evolving market demands and sustainability goals, converters face the challenge of maintaining color consistency amid varying factors like operator skill and substrate quality. BOBST’s oneECG technology addresses this by expanding the traditional CMYK color model with additional colors—orange, green, and violet—enhancing color gamut without relying on spot colors.
“oneECG offers converters a robust solution for eliminating color consistency issues,” said Marco Carrara, Technology Sales Director at CI Flexo. He noted that the system can match up to 95% of Pantone colors using seven fixed colors compared to 65% with standard CMYK, improving efficiency, sustainability, and profitability.
The technology digitizes color matching, reducing reliance on manual processes and cutting down ink waste and costs. With up to 90% of job preparation done offline, oneECG also increases press uptime and reduces startup waste by up to 35%.
BOBST’s oneECG is compatible with existing CI flexo presses, requiring no additional upgrades. The system employs high levels of automation, including smartGPS for registration and the Digital Inspection Table (DIT) for quality control. BOBST Connect enhances this with data-driven insights and performance tracking.
At drupa 2024, BOBST showcased its collaboration with industry partners like Flexicon and XSYS, highlighting the environmental benefits of oneECG. Luis Mora, CCO of Litoplas in Columbia, remarked, “ECG has revolutionized our printing operations, resulting in better outcomes and a more efficient workflow.”
The oneECG system represents a significant advancement in achieving consistent, high-quality printing in the packaging industry.
