Swiss packaging giant BOBST has set forward its vision to shape the future of the industry. Connecting the dots between Packaging 4.0 and Industry 4.0 will rely on four cornerstones of connectivity, digitalisation, automation and sustainability, with the company placing heavy emphasis on new technologies and capabilities. Among these new solutions are:
BOBST Connect
BOBST Connect links up every step of the packaging value chain to heighten efficiency, control and data knowledge. It provides the most accurate and actionable data from branded machines, allowing customers to improve performance and monitor machine and production health to reduce waste and increase profitability.
Machine specific dashboards monitor allow users to view key metrics highlighting the health of the equipment, production status and track OEE by job, shift and time period. New assets will be delivered to customers as they become available, including predictive and maintenance management solutions.
BOBST oneECG
oneECG is BOBST’s Extended Colour Gamut technology deployed across analogue and digital printing for label, flexible packaging, folding carton and corrugated board. oneECG not only increases quality and reduces waste, but it also enhances sustainability. With oneECG in gravure for example, customers can reduce ink consumption, leftovers and material waste by up to 50%.
BOBST labels
The firm believes the future of label production will be driven by inkjet developments and the growth of the All-in-One category it launched in 2019.
In 2020, the BOBST DM5 received the EDP Industry Award for the best combined label and flexible packaging printer of the year, and the company aims to lead the next chapter of digitalisation of label production by offering solutions in flex, digital inject and combinations of both.
BOBST Digital Inspection Tables (DIT)
These fully digitalised tables avoid human errors, significantly decrease waste and reduce expensive and damaging recalls. In streamlining the process, these DIT solutions represent a strategic piece within the Packaging 4.0 roll-out.
Jean-Pascal Bobst, CEO BOBST Group, said: “We are living through a period of profound transformation in our industry and our approach is to embrace that transformation and provide new opportunities for our customers.”
