Berry Global has collaborated with cleaning product manufacturer Vamoosh to develop a packaging solution for its Plug Hole Unblocker, addressing the challenges posed by the product’s chemical composition.
Through research and testing, Berry determined that conventional PET and HDPE materials lacked the required durability for the specialist chemicals used in the unblocker. To enhance the bottle’s resistance, the company incorporated an Environmental Stress Crack Resistant (ESCR) additive and increased the thickness of its 600ml Alpha bottle. Following evaluations, a 52g weight was selected as the most suitable option.
Dave Toms, Director of Cares Laboratory Ltd., highlighted the importance of this collaboration. “Our partnership with Berry Global has been pivotal in developing a packaging solution that meets our performance criteria. Berry’s swift turnaround and comprehensive service capabilities allowed us to bring our product to market quickly and efficiently.”
The development process, completed in under two months, included the creation of 3D-rendered graphics and branding within two days to help visualize the final design. Three different bottle weights were tested in customer trials before finalizing the tooling template, allowing Vamoosh to make an informed decision and control costs.
The bottle’s neck was adapted to fit a standard child-resistant closure (CRC) cap to ensure regulatory compliance. Production takes place at Berry’s facilities in Beccles and Norwich, providing an integrated manufacturing process.
Joe Horton, Sales and Marketing Director at Berry Global, emphasized the company’s role in the project. “We were committed to delivering a functional and efficient packaging solution for Vamoosh. The result demonstrates how our expertise and global network contribute to high-quality product development.”
