BEEAH explores waste-to-energy and recycling solutions to improve packaging sustainability in Uganda.

The meeting with the Ugandan President centered on adapting BEEAH’s successful waste management models from the UAE, KSA, and Egypt for implementation in Uganda.

BEEAH, a sustainability leader based in the UAE, recently met with Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to discuss potential collaborations on sustainable waste management solutions for Uganda. The meeting, held during the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, aimed to explore ways to adapt BEEAH’s successful waste management models, used in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, to Uganda’s needs.

The discussions focused on a range of solutions, including waste collection, city cleaning, integrated recycling, and waste-to-energy technologies, to address Uganda’s growing waste and power challenges. BEEAH has achieved a landfill diversion rate of over 90% in Sharjah through its integrated waste management system, which includes recycling and a waste-to-energy plant. The company is looking to replicate this success in Uganda through similar public-private partnerships.

Khaled Al Huraimel, CEO of BEEAH, commented, “It was an honour to meet with President Museveni… we are excited at the opportunity to partner with local Ugandan entities to make a positive impact for the environment and society at scale.”

Following the meeting, a delegation led by the Ugandan Ambassador to the UAE, H.E. Zaake Wanume Kibedi, visited BEEAH’s headquarters in Sharjah to learn more about the company’s waste management operations. The delegation was briefed on BEEAH’s specialized recycling and waste processing facilities, including the 30 MW Sharjah Waste-to-Energy plant, which processes 300,000 tonnes of hard-to-recycle waste annually.

BEEAH plans to begin its collaboration with Uganda by implementing waste collection, city cleaning, and recycling systems, with the goal of advancing toward waste-to-energy solutions to meet the country’s power needs. The discussions with Uganda represent a significant step in BEEAH’s international efforts to promote sustainable waste management and clean energy solutions.
