Ball Corporation acquires Alucan to expand Sustainable Packaging Solutions in Europe

Ball Corporation expands its sustainable packaging footprint with the acquisition of Alucan’s manufacturing facility in Llinars del Vallés, Spain.

Ball Corporation has acquired Alucan, a European leader in extruded aluminum aerosol and bottle technology. The acquisition, announced on October 31, 2024, strengthens Ball’s position in the growing sustainable packaging market in Europe.

The deal adds manufacturing facilities in Llinars del Vallés (Barcelona), Spain, and Lummen, Belgium, to Ball’s existing operations. The new plants, equipped with advanced technology, are expected to help the company meet increasing demand for sustainable aluminum packaging while minimizing environmental impact.

Ball’s President of Growth Ventures, Jay Billings, said, “We are excited to welcome Alucan to Ball. Alucan has built a strong reputation over many years as the leading specialty impact-extruded aerosol and bottle producer in Europe. By integrating Alucan’s expertise, we can offer greater flexibility, innovation, and capacity to help our customers bring new products to market faster and more sustainably.”

The acquisition enhances Ball’s capabilities in large-diameter aerosol cans and impact-extruded bottles, supporting its existing reusable bottles business and expanding its offerings to include personal care and home products. The company aims to diversify its customer base and increase cross-selling opportunities with food and beverage manufacturers.

Ball also plans to focus on reducing the carbon footprint of the newly acquired operations by lightweighting cans, increasing recycled content, and optimizing truck capacity to reduce CO2 emissions.

This acquisition represents a significant step for Ball Corporation in its efforts to expand its sustainable packaging solutions and support the growing demand for aerosol and impact-extruded bottles in Europe.
