Arden Software introduces Dynamic Constraints in Impact CAD

Arden Software’s Impact Dynamic Constraints introduces geometric constraint tools, enhancing flexibility and efficiency in packaging design.

Arden Software has introduced a new design tool within its CAD software, Impact, marking a first in packaging design. The ‘Dynamic Constraints Edition’ brings geometric constraint tools to the industry, allowing designers to capture intent while drawing and enabling quick resizing.

Initially introduced to key customers last year, the feature has received positive feedback for improving design flexibility, workflow speed, and creative capabilities.

“The introduction of geometric constraint tools within Impact has been a game changer for the packaging design industry,” said Matt Hewitt, Business Development Director at Arden Software. “Early adopters have seen significant improvements in efficiency and creativity, working with unprecedented flexibility, precision, and speed.”

Traditionally used in architectural and mechanical CAD, constraint-based design is now available in packaging software. This approach moves away from history-based parametrics, allowing existing or imported drawings to be resized without manual adjustments.

Key Features of Impact Dynamic Constraints:

  • Parametric design tools ensure design integrity during modifications.
  • Seamless resizing enables quick adaptation to changing specifications.
  • Comprehensive constraint types include distance, angular, lock, and geometric constraints to maintain alignment and structure.
  • Automatic constraint application streamlines the design process.
  • Customizable standards allow for reusable, resizable designs stored in the Impact Standard Library.
  • A Dynamic Constraints Toolbox provides real-time feedback, error reporting, and model integrity checks.

Looking ahead, Arden Software is preparing a major Impact update later this year, further refining the Dynamic Constraints feature. The release will also introduce improved revision support, enhanced snapping tools, and updates to 3D design, offering greater flexibility in scene creation.
