Amcor has launched a new paper-based refill pack for instant coffee and dry beverages as part of its AmFiber™ Performance Paper range. The stand-up pouch, initially introduced in the Middle East, Africa region and Europe, is designed to be recyclable while maintaining product integrity.
The pouch contains 85% fiber content and is certified for recyclability by the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI) and Aticelca. It offers curbside recyclability in several European countries and aims to help brands reduce their environmental footprint. According to Amcor, the packaging can lower carbon emissions by up to 73%, decrease non-renewable energy use by 71%, and reduce water consumption by 41%.
“Helping to advance more circular refill packaging, we are proud to announce the AmFiber™ Performance Paper stand-up pouch, as we continue to innovate in paper-based solutions,” said Giorgio Dini, Marketing Manager for Coffee at Amcor.
The pouch is designed to preserve the aroma and taste of soluble coffee products while ensuring strong seal integrity. It is also compatible with existing coffee packaging machinery and offers a lightweight design for efficient distribution.
Research cited by Amcor indicates that 89% of consumers consider recyclability an important factor in refill packaging. Additionally, brands using the new pouch may see savings of up to 70-90% on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees compared to non-recyclable alternatives, depending on the country.
With this launch, Amcor aims to meet the growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions while maintaining the practical requirements of food and beverage manufacturers.
