Almarai partners with SIG for five-year expansion focused on sustainability

SIG awards a trophy to Almarai, commemorating 20 years of successful collaboration.

Almarai, a leading dairy and food company in the Middle East, has named SIG as its strategic partner for a five-year expansion aimed at strengthening market presence and advancing sustainable innovation. The partnership, marking two decades of collaboration, will see SIG providing flexible manufacturing solutions aligned with Almarai’s sustainability targets.

The alliance emphasizes environmental responsibility, with both companies exploring packaging innovations to expand Almarai’s market impact. Ramesh Nair, Head of Central Procurement at Almarai, highlighted the collaboration’s role in driving progress: “The journey with SIG has been integral to our growth. Hand in hand, we’ve delivered sustainable packaging solutions that enhance the consumer experience and reinforce our joint commitment to innovation and adaptability.”

Throughout their partnership, Almarai and SIG have introduced several first-to-market products, such as the 150 ml portion packs for juice that evolved into the widely adopted 140 ml format. In 2021, Almarai became the first to utilize SIG’s Asset Health Monitoring technology, which optimizes equipment performance through proactive maintenance. In 2008, the company launched white cheese in carton packs, further diversifying its offerings.

The collaboration has shown resilience, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic when SIG maintained technical support to ensure continuous production under national guidelines. This enabled Almarai to meet regional demand for fresh and packaged goods, demonstrating the robustness of their partnership.

David Kazan, Head of Markets – Middle East & Pakistan at SIG, reflected on the relationship: “We are proud to support Almarai in bringing nutritious, quality products to consumers. Our shared commitment to operational excellence and sustainability remains the cornerstone of our partnership.”

As Almarai continues to expand its product lines, SIG’s technology will support rapid adaptation to market needs, bolstering the company’s position and reach across the GCC and beyond.
