Wipak Group has announced a series of multi-million-euro investments aimed at enhancing its operations and supporting its sustainability goals. The investments, set to take place across various Wipak sites in the coming years, reflect the company’s commitment to driving innovation while reducing its environmental impact.
As part of its decarbonization strategy, Wipak has made significant strides in reducing its carbon footprint. Since initiating its carbon-zero journey in 2019, the company has achieved a 70% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions, a key component of its operational emissions.
In Finland, Wipak Oy is strengthening its operations with the completion of a new extrusion production line at its Nastola facility. This upgrade increases production capacity and enhances Wipak’s portfolio of recycle-ready and healthcare packaging solutions. The site will also expand its cleanroom facilities for Wipak Steriking® products over the next three years, improving production capacity and ensuring the safety of hospital sterilization packaging.
Tuija Suur-Hamari, Managing Director of Wipak Oy, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability: “Responsibility and sustainability are reflected not only in our products but also in our operations.” Wipak aims to achieve a zero-carbon footprint by 2025, focusing on minimizing emissions across all stages of production and offsetting only unavoidable emissions.
The company is also investing in its European sites. In Germany, Wipak Walsrode will receive a multi-million-euro investment to upgrade machinery and streamline operations. At Wipak Iberica in Spain, similar investments will enhance manufacturing capabilities. Additionally, Wipak Gryspeert in France is implementing a new “Greencast” cast line to improve its ability to provide recyclable mono-material solutions for thermoforming.
