Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, officially inaugurated the expanded Cairo Food Industries Factory, operated by Kraft Heinz, on Saturday. The ceremony was attended by US Ambassador to Egypt Hiro Mustafa, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Dr. Sherif Farouk, and Bruno Keller, President of Eastern and Western Emerging Markets at Kraft Heinz International.

The expansion increased the factory’s area from 20,000 to 30,000 square meters and introduced seven new production lines, including bottle and jar filling, ketchup and mayonnaise manufacturing, sachet and Doy Pack filling. Additionally, a new water treatment plant and administrative buildings were unveiled. These upgrades aim to double the factory’s annual production capacity to 53,000 tons, supported by approximately $50 million in foreign investment.

In his speech, Minister El-Wazir emphasized the factory’s enhanced role in exporting products to Arab, African, and European markets. “Transforming our only factory in the Middle East and Africa into a regional hub aligns with our goal to increase exports from 12% to 20%,” he stated. He also highlighted the initiative to raise the use of local components to 90% and to train skilled Egyptian workers.

The expansion supports the Ministry of Industry’s National Strategy for Industry (2024-2030), which focuses on increasing production capacities, supporting green industries, and fostering digital transformation. El-Wazir outlined the strategy’s seven main axes, including attracting investment, boosting exports, and improving product quality to meet international standards.

Cairo Food Industries Factory, with a licensed capital of 6 billion pounds and a workforce of 600, is positioned to play a significant role in Egypt’s industrial growth. The Minister concluded by acknowledging Kraft Heinz Egypt’s contributions and expressing confidence in the continued development of the country’s manufacturing and export capabilities.
