Avery Dennison Corporation (NYSE: AVY) has announced its first range of INGEDE12-certified paper label solutions, aimed at enhancing the recycling of paper and cardboard packaging. This initiative aligns with the company’s ongoing efforts to support a circular economy through innovative materials.
The new label range incorporates advanced adhesive technology that facilitates the separation of labels from pulp during recycling. This process improves the quality and yield of recycled paper and cardboard products. “The INGEDE12 certification shows our commitment to creating products that enable recycling without sacrificing performance,” said Maarten Zubli, Marketing Manager Paper at Avery Dennison.
The product line includes several facestock options, such as rVellum, Coated Paper, Thermal Eco, and Thermal Top, catering to various labeling needs. Notably, the rVellum facestock is made from 100% recycled materials, contributing to reduced carbon emissions.
To comply with the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) guidelines, which require packaging components to meet specific recyclability criteria, Avery Dennison’s label materials underwent independent testing following the INGEDE12 protocol. This testing confirms that the materials satisfy the standards set by the European Paper Recycling Council (EPRC).
Zubli acknowledged the evolving nature of recycling guidelines: “Paper and cardboard design-for-recycling guidelines and protocols are still in development, and will likely change in the future.” However, the decision to pursue INGEDE12 certification reflects the company’s proactive approach to ensuring its products meet stringent recycling demands.
With this launch, Avery Dennison aims to provide brands with effective solutions that contribute to sustainable packaging practices while maintaining high performance standards.
