McDonald’s introduces Mini McFlurry and in sustainable packaging

McDonald’s new eco-friendly four-flap cup for McFlurries helps reduce waste while serving up your favorite treat.

McDonald’s is launching a new, smaller version of its McFlurry dessert alongside an update to its packaging, starting Sept. 10, 2024, at participating U.S. restaurants. The new “Mini McFlurry” offers a smaller portion of the popular treat, available in classic flavors like OREO® and M&M’S®, as well as limited-time varieties.

In addition to the new size, McDonald’s is introducing a four-flap cup for its McFlurry, which will phase out plastic lids. This change is part of the company’s sustainability efforts, aimed at reducing waste and advancing its goal to source all primary guest packaging from renewable, recycled, or certified materials by 2025.

“Packaging updates like this matter,” said Michael Gonda, McDonald’s Senior Vice President and Chief Impact Officer for North America. “Not only is this a fun way for our U.S. fans to enjoy the McFlurry; we’re also moving one step closer to fulfilling our packaging and waste commitments.”

The four-flap cups have already been introduced in markets such as Canada and Indonesia. With the new packaging, McDonald’s aims to make a positive environmental impact while continuing to offer its popular dessert in a more sustainable way.
