Label Link advances digital printing capabilities with new acquisition

Label Link enhances digital capabilities with new SCREEN Truepress LABEL 350UV SAI-S press.

Label Link, a prominent wholesale label printer based in South Africa, has furthered its digital transformation by acquiring a second SCREEN Truepress LABEL 350UV SAI-S. This purchase follows a successful partnership with ROTOCON, a local provider of SCREEN digital inkjet solutions.

Founded in 2003, Label Link has become a key player in Cape Town’s label printing market, primarily serving the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector. Specializing in labels for food products like fruits and spices, the company, with an annual turnover nearing R80 million, has experienced substantial growth. This expansion prompted the need for enhanced production capacity.

In 2018, Label Link made its initial move towards digital printing by acquiring a SCREEN Truepress JET L350UV+ and a ROTOCON ECOLINE RDF 340 finishing machine. This shift marked the beginning of the company’s digital transformation.

Wiaan Stemmet, owner of Label Link, commented on the transition: “While flexo remains a significant part of our business, digital printing offers a more financially viable solution for short-run, efficient, and accurate label production.” The latest acquisition of the Truepress LABEL 350UV SAI-S aims to address growing demand for short-run jobs, eliminating minimum order quantities and reducing setup waste.

The new press is noted for its flexibility and automation, with print speeds reaching 60 meters per minute. “What I love most about this machine is its flexibility and automation features,” said Stemmet. The integration with EQUIOS, SCREEN’s workflow management software, further enhances productivity by allowing multiple jobs on a single reel.

The partnership with ROTOCON, led by CEO Michael Aengenvoort and Sales Director Pascal Aengenvoort, has been pivotal in Label Link’s success. Stemmet praised the support received: “They’re more than just a machine supplier. Their expertise has made the transition to digital printing seamless.”

Label Link’s ongoing commitment to digital technology and its strong relationship with ROTOCON position the company for continued growth and innovation in the label printing industry. “I’ve seen my productivity double, and I envision a future with a fully digital printing division,” Stemmet added.
