BOBST has awarded its 2024 Inventor Award to Tim Lair, an Additive Manufacturing Engineer at Bobst Mex in Switzerland. Lair was recognized for his innovative work in enhancing platen systems, such as die-cutters and hot stamping units, through the use of 3D printed components.

Lair’s invention, the Sealing of Bernoulli module, was selected from a pool of patented innovations by BOBST employees in 2023. This invention stood out for its commercial and technical value, as well as its marketability. It introduces a simple braking mechanism, known as a Bernoulli brake, which is easier to install due to its 3D-printed modules. This advancement is expected to improve productivity, reduce manufacturing costs, and lower operational air consumption.

Leonard Badet, Chief Technology Officer at BOBST, commented, “The annual Inventor Award is an incredibly important initiative within the BOBST organization. It recognizes the high skill level, dedication, and innovative mindset of our employees across the globe.” He added that the award highlights the critical role of employees like Lair in driving BOBST’s success and innovation.

The Inventor Award, supported by BOBST CEO Jean-Pascal Bobst, aims to showcase the company’s strong intellectual property and encourage ongoing innovation in the packaging industry. Badet emphasized, “With this invention, Tim is leveraging his expertise in additive manufacturing to drive development in the design of parts and assemblies, keeping BOBST at the forefront of innovation.”

BOBST continues to support advancements that benefit the packaging sector and the environment, and anticipates that Lair’s invention will contribute positively to both.
