Innovative packaging technologies: Syntegon at Fachpack 2024

Syntegon showcases future-proof packaging solutions and retrofit kits at Fachpack, ensuring a smooth transition to sustainable, PPWR-compliant packaging.

At the upcoming Fachpack trade fair, Syntegon will present a range of sustainable packaging technologies aimed at helping food manufacturers transition to environmentally friendly processes in line with the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), set to take effect in 2030. From September 24 to 26, visitors to Syntegon’s booth (1-257, Hall 1) can explore innovative solutions for packaging materials like mono-material, paper, and cardboard.

Highlighting the event will be Syntegon’s SVX Agile vertical packaging machine, which is designed for efficiency with sustainable materials. The machine’s patent-pending cross-seal drive allows it to produce up to 300 pouches per minute, even when using recyclable mono-material. “Sustainable packaging will no longer be just an image decision but a legal requirement,” said Torsten Sauer, Director of Sustainability at Syntegon. “Our goal is to help manufacturers seamlessly transition to sustainable, PPWR-compliant packaging.”

Syntegon will also display a packaging line for bars, featuring the Pack 403 horizontal flow-wrapper equipped with the paper-ON-form forming shoulder. This innovation enables manufacturers to switch from plastic to paper without compromising performance, and can be retrofitted to existing machines.

Another notable exhibit is the Kliklok ACE carton erector, which forms up to 100 glue-free carton trays per minute, reducing energy, maintenance, and material costs while improving recyclability.

In addition to these technologies, Syntegon offers comprehensive consulting services, including material testing in their in-house laboratories. The Synexio cloud-based software, part of their Service Agreements, helps manufacturers optimize process parameters and monitor sustainability metrics like power consumption and waste production.

“We continuously develop our system solutions to make packaging processes more environmentally friendly,” added Sauer, noting that Syntegon is working on a new paper-ON-form retrofit kit for paper multipacks, with samples available at the event.
